Lansdale Man Hospitalized Following Weekend Assault on East Main Street, Suspect Arrested

A Lansdale man was placed into the Intensive Care Unit of a Philadelphia hospital on Sunday afternoon following an alleged assault along the 200 block of East Main Street in Lansdale Borough.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 2:19 p.m. on April 16 for a report of an assault victim, with arriving officers locating a male victim lying in a pool of blood suffering from severe injuries to his head, eyes, mouth, and neck areas. The victim, whom police described as semi-conscious but unable to answer questions about what happened, was receiving medical care from an off-duty emergency medical technician upon their arrival, according to the criminal complaint.

The victim was ultimately airlifted to Jefferson Hospital, where they were sedated, intubated, and placed on a ventilator, police said. The off-duty EMT provided police with a description of the suspect — later identified as 24-year-old Yasim Jackson, of Lansdale — and stated Jackson had fled the scene on foot eastbound on East Main Street, according to the complaint.

The report states that Jackson was the victim’s stepson.

A witness at the scene told police the victim had gotten into an argument with Jackson about being at their property. The argument escalated when the victim shoved Jackson, and the two then began punching each other, with the entire altercation lasting approximately 30 seconds, police said. The witness stated they saw the victim fall to the ground and then Jackson fled the scene, according to charging documents.

The witness told police that Jackson had been at the property several times prior, and it was later learned that Jackson had been asked by his mother to watch her children at the property while she was running errands, police said.

Charges of aggravated assault with extreme indifference, reckless endangerment, and simple assault were filed against Jackson later that day, and he was subsequently taken into custody and arraigned on the charges Tuesday morning. Jackson is currently free on 10% of $10,000 cash bail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on April 26 at 10 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
