Lansdale Borough Police have made a second arrest in connection with the March shooting incident outside of Panico’s on North Cannon Avenue.
Abisail Rubi, 39, of Norristown, was arraigned Tuesday morning on two felony counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, one felony count of conspiracy to discharge a firearm into an occupied structure, and misdemeanor conspiracy counts of reckless endangerment and possession of a weapon.
Rubi is currently being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $99,000 cash bail.
Police were dispatched to the 500 block of North Cannon Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. on March 3 for a report of a disturbance. Investigators said a man — later identified as 33-year-old Eddie Cox, of Norristown — got into an altercation with patrons at the bar, after which he and Rubi began to leave. Once outside, Cox and Rubi began walking toward the parking lot, at which point Cox retrieved a handgun from Rubi’s purse and fired a single shot towards the bar, according to charging documents.
The two suspects then got into a dark colored sedan and fled the scene eastbound, police said.
The investigation determined that a bystander was nearly struck by the bullet, which ultimately struck a support pole on the porch, according to the criminal complaint. A single shell casing was recovered by police at the scene, and both the initial incident inside the bar and the shooting incident outside the bar were captured on surveillance footage, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Cox was taken into custody on March 29 and arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, reckless endangerment, and possession of a weapon. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $99,000 cash bail along with a probation detainer, court records show.
Rubi’s next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on April 19 at 11 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Deborah Lukens. Cox had a preliminary hearing initially scheduled for April 12 in front of Magisterial District Judge Maureen Coggins, however court records show that hearing was rescheduled to April 26 at 2:45 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
