The victim of Wednesday night’s fatal motorcycle crash on Bethlehem Pike has been identified as a senior student at North Penn High School.
Montgomery County Department of Public Safety reported the crash occurred at 8:35 p.m. on April 12 near the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Garden Golf Boulevard. WFMZ, quoting emergency dispatchers, said the crash involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck.
The operator of the motorcycle — identified as 18-year-old Servio Ramirez — was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states.
Officials at North Penn School District confirmed Ramirez’s identity via an email to parents Thursday morning. The email reads, in full:
“Good morning NPHS parents and families,
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the recent death of NPHS senior, Servio Ramirez, who died in a motorcycle accident last night. NPHS counselors, as always, are available to speak with students about this loss and the emotions they may be experiencing.
It is difficult for us to face death, especially that of a young person. In addition to guidance services available at NPHS, you may also want to talk to your child about this loss because it impacts each person in different ways. Resources to help you do this can be found here.
As both a principal and as a parent, I can think of no worse tragedy than the loss of a child and I know you join me in extending heartfelt sympathy to the family. This should have been a celebratory time for Servio’s family as they prepared to watch their son graduate. Please keep the Ramirez family in your thoughts as they grieve the loss of their son. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Kyle
Principal
North Penn High School”
Though the cause of the crash is currently unknown, multiple witnesses posted to a Facebook group for Montgomery Township residents stating they observed the motorcycle traveling northbound on Bethlehem Pike at a high rate of speed past the quarry near the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Keystone Drive.
“I was sitting at the light where the quarry is [and] he flew between all the stopped cars,” said one witness. “I actually gasped and jumped in my seat [as] it startled me.”
“It scared the crap out of me as he flew through,” said another witness in the same vicinity “I said to myself ‘I hope nothing happens:’ [then] within an instant approaching the next light, it happened.”
As a result of the crash, Bethlehem Pike was closed for several hours. Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Fire Department of Montgomery Township and the North Penn Fire Company.
North Penn Now is awaiting the further release of details from Montgomery Township Police. We will provide an update on the crash investigation, as well as funeral and memorial service information for Ramirez, when it becomes available.
(Editor’s note: On behalf of all of us at North Penn Now, I want to offer our sincerest condolences to the Ramirez family on their tragic loss.)
