Montgomery Township Police have released additional details from a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Wednesday night on Bethlehem Pike.
Police were dispatched to the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Garden Golf Boulevard at 8:35 p.m. on April 12 for a report of a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. Arriving officers said the crash involved a 2019 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 70-year-old male from Williamsburg, VA, and a 2019 Yamaha motorcycle that was being operated by 18-year-old Servio Ramirez, of North Wales.
Ramirez — a North Penn High School senior who was scheduled to graduate in June — was pronounced dead at the scene following attempted life-saving efforts.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Bethlehem Pike and the pickup truck was traveling southbound on Bethlehem Pike attempting to turn from the left-turn lane onto Garden Golf Boulevard. No further details regarding the cause of the crash were provided by police, however at least two witnesses noted that the motorcycle was observed traveling at a high rate of speed in the same direction moments prior to the crash.
When reached for comment, a police spokesperson pointed to their official release and declined to comment further.
News of Ramirez’s death quickly spread Thursday morning, prompting an email from North Penn High School Principal Kyle Hassler to area parents acknowledging the tragic incident. [Read the full email here.]
“As both a principal and as a parent, I can think of no worse tragedy than the loss of a child and I know you join me in extending heartfelt sympathy to the family,” Hassler said. This should have been a celebratory time for Servio’s family as they prepared to watch their son graduate. Please keep the Ramirez family in your thoughts as they grieve the loss of their son.”
As a result of the crash, Bethlehem Pike was closed for several hours. Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Fire Department of Montgomery Township, North Penn Fire Company, Horsham Township Police Department, Lower Gwynedd Police Department, Ambler EMS and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Montgomery Township Police are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have video footage of the incident to contact the Highway Safety unit 215-362-2301. Tips can also be emailed to [email protected].
