Police have released the details of the barricaded subject incident that occurred Thursday afternoon at the Parc at West Point apartments in Upper Gwynedd Township.
Police were dispatched to an apartment along the 100 block of Church Road at 4:26 p.m. on April 11 for a report of a suicidal subject with a handgun. Upper Gwynedd Police Chief David Duffy said an armed adult male had locked himself in the bedroom prior to police arrival, leading to a shelter in place order being given to other residents within the apartment building.
“After refusing to talk to police, the subject did eventually speak to Sergeant Harry Colcher. The subject agreed to come outside,” said Duffy. “The subject met police outside and cooperated with being transported for medical and mental health evaluation [at a local hospital].”
Duffy confirmed the subject was armed, adding several firearms were recovered at the scene. A medevac helicopter that was observed over the area at the same time was unrelated the incident, according to Duffy.
Police cleared the scene by 6:30 p.m.
“We appreciate the patience of anyone who was inconvenienced and we are glad this was resolved safely,” Duffy said.
