Police Release Details of Crash That Shutdown Bethlehem Pike Monday Afternoon

Montgomery Township Police have released the details of a two-vehicle crash that closed Bethlehem Pike for more than two hours Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred on Bethlehem Pike at the intersection with Taylor Road at 2:25 p.m. Investigators said a 2016 Subaru Outback began to brake as it approached the intersection, at which time a 2022 Dodge Ram 3500 towing a trailer attempted to brake behind the Subaru but instead struck the rear of the vehicle and then contacted support wires and a utility pole.

Police said the driver of the truck suffered a minor head injury as a result of the crash.

There was a brief power outage following the crash, and PECO crews closed off a small grid area at the intersection to allow first responders to remove the truck from the pole, police said. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours and 20 minutes as crews worked to clear the scene.

Montgomery Township Police Lt. Gerry Dougherty said the crash remains under investigation, and a decision on whether or not charges will be filed will be made when the investigation is complete.

“We appreciate the information that was provided by witnesses to the crash that stopped at the scene,” said Dougherty. “If anyone has any additional information related to this crash, we request that they contact the Montgomery Township Police Department Highway Safety Unit at 215 362-2301.”

Montgomery Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Fire Department of Montgomery Township, Colmar Fire Company, Fairmount Fire Company, North Penn Fire Company, and Upper Moreland Township Police Department.
