Police Investigating After Father Finds 11-Year-Old Son Dead in Horsham Tuesday Morning

Horsham Township Police and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau have launched an investigation into the death of an 11-year-old boy whose body was found by his father Tuesday morning.

Horsham Township Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Privet Road at 7:06 a.m. on April 11 after a man called 9-1-1 stating he had found his son dead in the master bedroom of the home. Arriving police located the body of the boy — identified as Matthew Whitehead — in a bed that he had shared with his mother — identified as Ruth Dirienzo-Whitehead — the night prior, according to police.

According to a release by the district attorney’s office, the father told police that when he awoke Tuesday morning, he noticed the master bedroom door was locked and his wife’s black Toyota Highlander was missing from the garage. Police in Cape May, NJ located Dirienzo-Whitehead’s vehicle partially submerged in the ocean just off beach Avenue, and Dirienzo-Whitehead was located by police a short time later.

No further details were provided, and no charges have been filed at this time.

Officials said the victim’s cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
