Visitors are invited to Pennypacker Mills on Oct. 1 for this year’s final Porch Performance, Edgar Allen Poe: Readings from Virginia Poe.
Actress Alisa Dupuy will portray Virginia Clemm Poe and talk about her relationship with her husband, Edgar Allen Poe. The highlight of this Porch Performance will be a dramatic reading of Poe’s, “The Black Cat.” This tale of wickedness and death is sure to capture everyone as it shows Poe’s darker side.
“The Black Cat,” was perhaps Poe’s darkest story. It is a story of a drunk man who kills his cat, and it comes back to haunt him. In Poe’s usual style, the narrator of the story is the killer, and the story is seen through his eyes.
The performance will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to sit on outside on the mansion lawn to enjoy this free performance. Mansion tours are available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
