Hatfield Man Who Stole Sex Toys from Adult World then Fled to Hotel Sentenced to Jail, Probation

A Hatfield Township man has been sentenced to jail time and probation after he stole sex toys from the Adult World in Montgomery Township then fled to a nearby hotel.

Court records show 30-year-old Jacob McFarland pleaded guilty over the summer to misdemeanor counts of retail theft and simple assault. Additional charges of felony robbery, as well as misdemeanor terroristic threats and receiving stolen property, were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

McFarland was sentenced to 80 days to 23 months in county jail, followed by three years’ probation, court records show. He was given credit for 80 days of time served, meaning he was subsequently released upon sentencing.

Police said 29-year-old Jacob McFarland entered Adult World around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 27, at which point he selected a "Fleshlight" and an "AutoBlow AI," then proceeded to exit the store without paying. A store clerk attempted to stop McFarland in the parking lot, however McFarland threatened to stab him, prompting the clerk to let him go, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint states the clerk was able to positively identify the suspect as McFarland due to McFarland recently applying for a position at the store. Total value of the stolen items was $345.98, according to the complaint.

Several minutes after arriving to the scene, police located McFarland at the Staybridge Suites along the 100 block of Garden Golf Boulevard, the report states. Police said McFarland was subsequently taken into custody, at which point they discovered he had a knife on his person.
