A Lansdale resident who is a behavioral health technician and a psychological and social sciences major at Penn State University Abington is the new Miss Black Pennsylvania, according to MediaNews Group.

Molaea-Rene Goodman may wear the sash indicating her title as “Miss Black Pennsylvania,” but the banner she wears proudly and promotes passionately is the struggle of mental health challenges in Black women.

According to the report, Goodman said it is not about glamour, but about sending positive messages and becoming a role model for young Black girls and women.

Goodman is poised to launch her “Miss Imperfect” blog, where she intends to “provide a safe space for Black women to share experiences” with occurrences like imposer syndrome.

The interview process for Miss Black Pennsylvania was rigorous and intense, delving into Goodman’s education, lifestyle, and hobbies, like exploring the outdoors and writing.

Goodman heads to the national pageant next summer, according to the article, which includes modeling and a talent segment.

The Penn State senior works at the school’s Counseling and Psychological Services as a peer counselor and is employed by Omni Health Services as a behavioral health technician for clients with developmental disorders.
