Towamencin DAR to Celebrate Constitution Day Sept. 16

The Towamencin Chapters of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Children of the American Revolution (CAR) will celebrate Constitution Day on Friday, Sept. 16, on the Swede Street steps of Montgomery County Courthouse, Norristown, from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Proclamations and remarks declaring Constitution Week, Sept. 17 to Sept. 23, will be made by invited guests. Invitees include PA State Senator Amanda Cappelletti, Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert, and Sarinia Feinman, President of the Montgomery County Bar Association, among others. DAR participants include Pennsylvania SE District Director Lory Fraraccio-Kenney, Paula Myers-McDevitt of the Skippack Creek Chapter, Charlene Souders of Towamencin DAR, and Sadie Zavada of Towamencin CAR.

At 4 p.m., the Court House bell will be rung. Towamencin and 3,000 other DAR chapters will ring “Bells Across America” to observe the 235th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.

The national DAR initiated the observance in 1955, when the service organization petitioned the U.S. Congress to dedicate Sept. 17 to Sept. 23 of each year to the commemoration of Constitution Week. Congress adopted the resolution, and President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed it into law in 1956.
