Towamencin Woman Accused of Stealing from Weis Market 17 Times Since May

A Towamencin Township woman is facing more than a dozen charges after she allegedly stole from Weis Markets on Valley Forge Road on multiple occasions since May.

Upper Gwynedd Police were called to the store in August to review store evidence of a woman who had committed multiple retail thefts. Store personnel provided investigators with a “detailed workup” of receipts and surveillance materials showing the woman entering the self-checkout aisle, using her EBT card to pay for some items and failing to register other items, according to charging documents.

The woman — later identified as 61-year-old Mary Grondski — would then place the items in her 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage and flee the scene, police said.

In total, Grondski allegedly stole 110 pieces of merchandise via 17 visits to the store between May 17 and Aug. 9, police said. Combined value of the stolen merchandise was valued in excess of $700, according to the complaint.

Grondski spoke with investigators on Aug. 17, at which point she allegedly confessed to the thefts. Court records show 17 counts of misdemeanor retail theft were filed against her on Aug. 22.

Her first court appearance will be a preliminary hearing on Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. in front of District Judge Suzan Leonard. As the charges have been filed via summons, Grondski has not yet been arraigned or processed.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause. This story was updated to reflect the child's current custody status.
