Towamencin 7-Eleven Robbed Early Tuesday Morning, May Be Connected to Similar Incident in Lansdale

Towamencin Township Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at the 7-Eleven on Allentown Road early Tuesday morning.

According to Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel, police arrived at the store around 4:45 a.m. after a store employee called 9-1-1 to report a robbery. Troxel said two males wearing masks entered the store, with one serving as a lookout and the other smashing open the electronic gambling machines.

The two men then fled the scene with cash boxes from the smashed machines. The amount of money within the boxes is currently unknown, Troxel said.

No customers were inside of the store at the time of the incident, and the employee that called in the incident was working in the back of the store at the time and was unable to provide a description of the two suspects or their vehicle, Troxel said. There is no current information regarding whether the suspects were armed.

The investigation is in its early stages, as police work to download surveillance footage from the store and nearby businesses and residences. Troxel said no suspect or vehicle description is available, citing the preliminary nature of the investigation.

The robbery comes on the heels of a similar incident that occurred in Lansdale Borough, however details of that incident have not yet been made available. Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail confirmed to North Penn Now that police are investigating a robbery at the 7-Eleven on West Main Street that occurred sometime over the weekend. Like the Towamencin robbery, Trail said the weekend robbery in Lansdale involved the store’s electronic gambling machines.

When asked if he thought the incidents may be connected, Troxel said it was too early to conclusively link the robberies, but added they appeared to be similar.

“It certainly sounds similar to other events in the area,” Troxel said. "But its to early to say if they’re connected.”

When asked for additional information about the Lansdale incident, Trail stated Lansdale Police would be issuing a release on Tuesday afternoon. A separate story will be published at that time.
