Nor-Gwyn Baseball will hold their second-annual “Angels in the Outfield” fundraiser on Sunday afternoon, in honor of two former players — Shane Williams and Jayden Rodriguez — who died of heart conditions in spring 2022 and January 2021, respectively.
The tournament is scheduled for Oct. 23 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Nor-Gwyn baseball field, located at 145 Hancock Road in Upper Gwynedd Township. The event will feature baseball games, more than 20 raffle baskets, a 50/50 raffle and other festivities. Proceeds from the event, as well as the snack stand, will be donated to Simon’s Heart, Hayden’s House of Healing, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
“Shane and Jayden were both special boys who are gone too soon,” said Dan Williams, Shane’s father. “However, a community has come together to bring people together in a time of need.”
Shane, a fifth-grade student at North Wales Elementary, died in April following a month-long hospitalization at CHOP, where he was undergoing treatment for a sudden heart-related illness. A fundraiser on GoFundMe has raised more than $44,000 for the Williams’ family to date (click here to donate).
The Rodriguez family lost their son, Jayden, one year prior at the age of 13. Jayden died from sudden cardiac arrest on Jan. 17, 2021, and the family later learned he had been born with a congenital heart condition that they were unaware of, according to a report by Matteo Iadonisi at 6ABC.
A GoFundMe for the Rodriguez Family has raised more than $25,000 to date (click here to donate).
