Registration Under Way For 71st Annual Lansdale Mardi Gras Parade Nov. 19

It's that time of year again! Discover Lansdale is bringing back the borough's beloved Annual Mardi Gras Parade for its 71st year on Saturday, Nov. 19, starting at 1 p.m.

Every year, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the North Penn community turns out to line Main Street's sidewalks and cheer as marchers, dancers, bands, floats, fire trucks and other vehicles roll down the boulevard together to ring in the season and escort Santa to town.

This year's theme is Victorian Holidays; participants are welcome to design presentations around that theme, or use their imagination to devise a theme all their own.

Organizations, businesses, nonprofits and neighborhoods are encouraged to participate. Day-of volunteers are also needed to help carry on the tradition.

Community organizations and nonprofits can enter at no charge; commercial entries are invited to register as sponsors, with the fee remaining at $100 for 2022 (participants in Lansdale's 150th Anniversary Parade in August can register at half price).

Downloadable entry forms are posted at discoverlansdale.org; online registration is also available by clicking here. First place prizes will be awarded for the best presentation in each entry type, except for floats, which will be awarded Best Presentation of Parade Theme; Best Presentation of Non-Commercial Entry; and Mayor’s Choice.

Parade-day details will be emailed about a week before the event. Please make sure that the entry's email address is correct and clearly printed on the form. All entries must be received no later than November 1.

One note: No extra Santas, please. The "carrying” of Santa Claus is strictly prohibited, according to Discover Lansdale. It's part of the finale, where the honor goes to one area fire department. In addition, all emergency services are asked to limit their truck equipment entries to 5 total.

As participants in the parade, many groups don't get a chance to purchase collectible commemorative parade buttons each year. So groups also can pre-order and pre-pay for buttons through their registration. Buttons cost $1, display the theme of the parade and help fund the parade.

The Mardi Gras Parade takes dozens of community volunteers to run each year. Those who are able to volunteer are asked to email [email protected].

To register, complete the printed form and return to Bill Henning at [email protected], or mail to  Discover Lansdale, PO Box 1112, Lansdale, PA 19446

Discover Lansdale also reminds the community about these other projects:
