A Doylestown man has been arrested and charged after allegedly chasing a man on the highway while repeatedly aiming a gun at him during a road rage incident in July.
Elliot Benner, 31, was charged with two counts of stalking, four counts of simple assault, four counts of recklessly endangering another person and two counts of harassment in connection with the incident.
On July 18 at 7:33 p.m., police responded to a call from a man who said a male driver allegedly pointed a gun at him multiple times in while driving in Lower Gwynedd Township. The victim told police he repeatedly attempted to drive away from the man and did not know who the man was or why he pointed a gun at him and chased him on the highway, according to charging documents.
Investigators said they determined the car belonged to Benner’s 85-year-old grandmother. She told police that her grandson borrowed her car at 6:30 p.m. and provided police with Benner’s cell phone number, the report states.
Benner did not answer calls from the police and did not respond to a mobile text message sent to his number, police said.
Several days later, the victim identified a photograph of Benner as the man who chased him on the highway and aimed a gun at him multiple times, police said.
Benner was arraigned Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m. by District Judge Denise Ashe, who set bail at $10,000 unsecured. He posted bail the same day and his next court appearance will be on Nov. 3 at 11:30 a.m. in front of District Judge Suzan Leonard.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause. This story was updated to reflect the child's current custody status.
