Montgomery Mall to Host First Doggie Halloween Expo Later This Month

The Montgomery Mall will co-host a Doggie Halloween Expo, Parade, Trick or Treat, Costume Party & Sidewalk Sale on Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.

Pride Partners, LLC, is organizing the event, along with mall management. Organizers have taken it to the regional mall to bring visibility to important issues facing the pet population and regional malls.

At 11 a.m., there will be an expo featuring free goods and services targeted to a canine clientele. Beginning at 1 p.m., a trick or treat parade will be held at the lower level with store tenants dropping treats into doggie trick-or-treat bags.

At 2 p.m., there will be a costume contest based on five categories: Most Creative and Original, Best Human & Doggie Duo, Funniest, Cutest, and Pride. Special guest judges include local government officials from the township and surrounding areas.

The event will be followed by an after party located on the patio of Smokey Bones Restaurant in the mall’s upper level.

Richard Buttacavoli, of Pride Partners and a local community advocate, hopes to bring attention to the issue of overcapacity in shelters and to the need of adopters, fosters, and donations.

The event will educate attendees on a variety of canine topics, including dog-nappings and holiday pet prevention fire safety. Montgomery Township police and fire departments will be in attendance.

Mall management at the Montgomery Mall also hopes to highlight the transformation of the regional mall, especially after the pandemic. The event will act as an example of how shopping malls can serve multiple purposes.
