Earlier this week, 38-year-old Julie Grooms, Lansdale Catholic Class of 2002, passed away following a valiant four-year battle with cancer. She leaves behind a husband, David, and their 4-year-old daughter, Amelia. To donate to the fundraiser, click here.
If you’ve attended any Discover Lansdale event over the last few years, you’ve likely experienced her work. She worked in the background and never sought attention for her efforts, but her contribution to First Fridays, Founder’s Day, the Lansdale Zombie Walk, and many other events was immense.
Julie was initially diagnosed with cancer four years ago, which she initially beat through radiation and chemo treatment. Unfortunately, the cancer returned and spread, placing her in the hospital for more than a month earlier this year after undergoing an extensive surgical procedure.
Despite the tough recovery, Julie continued her efforts towards events in Lansdale, even attending a meeting earlier this year in person — much to the delight of everyone on the First Friday Committee.
Unfortunately, the cancer returned over the summer and metastasized. In September, she made the brave decision to forego further treatment and to enter hospice.
She died on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
Though the fundraiser was initially launched months ago to aid her family during her treatment, it’s now being used to help David and Amelia navigate their new lives without Julie. For more information on the fundraiser, click here.
Prior to her death, Julie maintained a journal on Caring Bridge. It can be viewed here.
Julie’s obituary reads as follows:
