Hatfield Police Provide Update on Hit and Run Crash That Killed Elderly Pedestrian

Hatfield Township Police have provided an update into their investigation into a late October hit and run crash that left an elderly pedestrian dead.

Police were initially dispatched to the area of Oak Park and Koffel roads at 3:13 p.m. on Oct. 27 for a report of a medical emergency. Arriving officers located an 83-year-old male lying unresponsive on the ground after being struck by a vehicle, and he was subsequently transported to Lansdale Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Several days later, investigators made a plea for public assistance, asking any residents in the area with a doorbell camera or surveillance system to contact them, as well as anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

In a recent update, investigators said they have identified, located, and impounded the vehicle believed to have struck the victim. Additionally, another motorist has come forward with information about the crash, according to Hatfield Township Police Chief Bill Tierney.

“We have cultivated some suspect information and more will be coming on that end,” said Tierney. “We give a big thanks to our great residents for coming forward with videos and information.”

In an interview with North Penn Now, Tierney said the investigation remains active and his department is looking into many branches of information and leads. Tierney added the residents who have come forward to aid in the investigation are the true “unsung heroes.”

“We asked for help, and we got it,” Tierney said. “As always, things work out much better when we all work together. In this case that is exactly what happened.”

As the investigation continues, police have renewed their calls for public assistance. Anyone with information or footage from this incident is asked to contact the Hatfield Township Police Department at 215-855-0903. Tips can also be submitted anonymously and electronically here or by emailing [email protected].

Officers William Summerfield and Ken Peck are serving as points of contact for the investigation.
