North Montco Technical Career Center Locked Down Thursday Morning

UPDATE: May 26, 10:08 a.m. – Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Troxel has provided more information into this morning’s events, which ultimately triggered the lockdown.

Troxel said officials with the Perkiomen Valley School District received an anonymous tip regarding a student who may have brought a weapon to school. That information was passed onto Towamencin Township Police as the student may be a North Montco Technical Career Center student, but Troxel said it was later determined that the student does not attend North Montco.

“Everything is safe at the tech school,” said Troxel. “This was a precautionary measure based on the info we had at the time.”

Troxel said Perkiomen Valley School District is handling the investigation. No identifying information about the student was provided.

North Montco Technical Career Center went into lockdown Thursday morning after school officials received information about the possibility of a weapon on a school bus.

The school was locked down from 8 a.m. to 8:20 a.m., officials said, in order to guarantee the safety of students. Police were dispatched to the school, where they quickly secured the scene.

The lockout has since been lifted. Students were delayed a total of 20 minutes, officials said. The school said they are working with the Towamencin Township Police Department on the investigation.

It is unclear if a weapon was recovered, or if the information was unfounded. Further updates from the school will be coming shortly, and North Penn Now is awaiting a response to a request for comment from Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Troxel.
