Hilltown Township Police are investigating the theft of mislaid property after an unknown female suspect failed to return a $100 bill that a shopper had inadvertently left on a counter at Walmart.
The incident occurred on May 20 at the Hilltown Walmart, located along the 1500 block of Bethlehem Pike. Police said the female suspect took possession of a $100 bill that was left by the customer directly in front of her, then made no effort to notify the customer or store personnel that the money had been left behind.
The suspect ran into the victim at another store after the fact, at which point she commented on seeing the victim again while failing to mention the discovery of the victim’s money, police said.
The female suspect had a brown and black Chihuahua with her at the time of the incident.
Under Pennsylvania statute 3924, which deals with lost, mislaid or items delivered by mistake:
“A person who comes into control of property of another that he knows to have been lost, mislaid, or delivered under a mistake as to the nature or amount of the property or the identity of the recipient is guilty of theft if, with intent to deprive the owner thereof, he fails to take reasonable measures to restore the property to a person entitled to have it.”
Hilltown Township Police discussed the statute with North Penn Now and readers back in March, many of whom were unaware of the statute. That discussion can be viewed here.
Anyone who may recognize the suspect or who has information about the theft is asked to contact Sergeant John Gildea at [email protected]. Tips can also be sent electronically and anonymously by clicking here.
