Lansdale's Business Of The Month Award Returns With Winship's Pieces of Time

Lansdale's Economic Development Committee (EDC) honored its first Business of the Month in more than two years Wednesday at the business meeting of Lansdale Borough Council.

Committee chair Mark Ladley presented Winship's Pieces of Time, a unique clock repair shop at 3 W. Main St., as the Business of the Month for May 2022.

As horologists — professionals who work with time pieces — the Winships have been in business since January 2001, when Keith and his mother opened a shop in Hatboro, with brother Bryan joining shortly after. The Winships moved their shop to Lansdale in 2018.

Winship's "is a gem for our community," Ladley said. "They are sought after by individuals far and wide – across the country even – given their reputation and skill. They can do everything from replace a battery on a wristwatch to restoring a standing clock that is hundreds of years old.

"What’s more, they’ve championed Lansdale itself. Should they have a customer come in from out of town, some driving a hundred miles or more, the brothers are always quick to point them to a local eatery or the shops downtown so that customers can fill the time as they wait."

Keith and Bryan's grandfather repaired clocks as a hobby, Ladley said, and the brothers immersed themselves in the craft at a young age.

"Some may know Keith and Bryan for their work on the Lukens Clock in Hatboro, which towers over that community," Ladley said. The clock had fallen into disrepair, until the Winships undertook its restoration.

"Over the course of two years, the Winships disassembled each piece, cleaning them, restoring them, and putting them back together with care," Ladley said. "Today that clock is beautifully restored and admired by people across the township."

Ladley said that the Winships have worked on clocks dating back to the 1600s, and a clock with a face made by Paul Revere, as well as a modern clock owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. They can even restore clocks with wooden gears, and craft new pieces to repair ancient mechanisms.

"I would ask you to remember the Winships the next time you need a watch or clock repaired or restored," Ladley told borough council. And with an array of antique timepieces for sale, he added, "If you are looking for a special gift, there may not be a better place to go."

The Business of the Month presentation has been on hold since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
