Man Found in Ditch After Attempting to Break into Advance Auto Parts, Police Say

A Montgomery Township man is facing felony burglary charges after he allegedly attempted to the break into Advance Auto Parts and was later found by a police canine unit hiding in a nearby ditch.

Police were dispatched to the 100 block of North Wales Road at 11:08 p.m. on May 17 for a report of an attempted break in. On arrival, police spoke with witnesses who said a man — later identified as 58-year-old Richard Kreisher — came out of the woods, threatened to kill them if they didn’t leave, then proceeded to use a large two-by-four to repeatedly smash the front glass door in an attempt to break in, according to charging documents.

Kreisher fled the scene on foot after the building’s alarm went off, leaving behind his cell phone in the rear parking lot, and his briefcase and baseball cap at the edge of the wood line, police said. He was later located lying in a nearby ditch by a canine unit from the Upper Gwynedd Police Department.

Police described Kreisher as having slurred speech and smelling of alcohol. He reportedly confirmed ownership of the cell phone, briefcase, and baseball cap, and was subsequently taken into custody.

As a result of the incident, Kreisher has been charged with one felony count of burglary along with misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, terroristic threats, loitering, and summary counts of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

Kreisher was arraigned the following morning by District Judge Katherine McGill, who set bail at $10,000 unsecured. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 31 at 2:30 p.m. in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
