By the end of summer, Philadelphia Suburban Development Corporation anticipates construction to begin on the new Chipotle and Mattress Warehouse building on the grounds of the former Boston Market in The Shops at Town Square at Allentown and Forty Foot roads.
During the presentation Monday night before the Towamencin Township Planning Commission on the preliminary and final land development proposal for the old Genuardi’s site at the shopping center, engineer John Anderson, P.E., of Cornerstone Consulting Engineers and Architectural Inc., updated the public on the status of the Chipotle/Mattress Warehouse project.
“We received final approval from the supervisors, and we’re currently working on the plan for the renovation process, pending some outside agency approvals,” Anderson said. “We’ve had to submit to PennDOT for modification for the right in-right out driveway (on Allentown Road by the Forty Foot Road intersection) to widen that on the exit movement slightly to allow for tractor trailers. Tractor trailers were exiting that and running up onto the curb. The plan is to widen that to accommodate that movement, and it required a permit for that.”
Anderson said PSDC is working with the Montgomery County Conservation District for erosion and sediment control approval, as well as reviewing the reports from township engineers.
“The goal is that we’d be under construction, hopefully by spring, or the second quarter of this year,” Anderson said.
The project also calls for a pedestrian bridge to be installed across a drainage basin to connect the Chipotle/Mattress Warehouse parking area to the parking area by the old Indian restaurant.
“It allows for people who park there to access the new buildings,” Anderson said.
The initial Chipotle and Mattress Warehouse news was revealed at a Towamencin Township supervisors meeting last August.
