Mayoral Musings: Lansdale 150th Parade and the Class of 2035

You read that correctly: the incoming kindergarten class of 2022 will graduate in 2035 and will likely represent one of the most diverse classes North Penn and Lansdale Catholic has ever seen with over 1,000 students beginning their educational journey.

As Lansdale continues to grow and develop, the connection with our education partners continues to be a critical part of our mutual success. Afterall, when someone moves to Lansdale for their first home, or their forever home, an important part of that conversation is where the kids might go to school (if they have them or are thinking about having them).

To help celebrate this strong connection between our borough and our school district, borough resident Andy Havington has been organizing a walking group of kindergartners and parents for our 150th parade on Aug. 20. His hope is that we can show the wider community just how strong the educational system is in the North Penn Area and have an amazing display of support for the Class of 2035.

Andy has poured his soul into this project by reaching out to the school district and organizing parents, volunteers, music, and marchers to help bring this to fruition. On parade day, marchers will be supported by a large number of volunteers and will be entertained by a local kid-centric DJ. Lots of singing and dancing. As a big bonus, NPTV will cover the event! Remember, it is a family event so each kindergartener must march with a responsible adult.

Signing up is easy, please register for the parade now. Email your child’s name, parent name, parent telephone and email contact info as well as the school she/he will attend in the fall to [email protected]

This is a great opportunity to bring our community, and our youngest residents, together for a celebration of our borough and the strong bond we share with both Lansdale Catholic and North Penn School District. Investment and support of education is a corner stone of success for any thriving community and this event gives us an opportunity to celebrate how that partnership can keep us moving forward together.

Thanks goes out to Andy for all the intrepid work he has done in organizing all the marchers and volunteers. In addition, thanks go out to Bill Henning and Dr. Michael McKenna for helping Andy get this project off the ground and help making it a success for all of Lansdale and North Penn!
