Investigation Launched After Montco Man Fatally Shot Two Teens Attempting to Rob Him, DA Says

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office has announced an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred in Norristown Friday evening.

Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Warren Street at approximately 8 p.m. for a report of two males who had been shot and killed. Upon arrival, police spoke to the shooter, who stated that the two teens attempted to rob him and pulled a gun on him as he was walking to his car from an area residence. Investigators said early indications show there was a struggle for one of the deceased’s gun, at which point the victim used his legally registered handgun to fatally shoot both of them.

The shooter then rendered aid and called 9-1-1, police said.

Both males were 17 years old, and their names are being withheld due to their juvenile status. An autopsy was performed on Saturday, which concluded one male was shot five times and the other male was shot once in the torso and once in the finger. The cause of death for both was officially listed as multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death was listed as homicide, according to the district attorney’s office.

“The man who shot the two males was questioned, then released and has not been charged,” said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele. “We have a lot of work to do on this investigation.”

Anyone with information about the shooting or the two deceased teens is asked to contact the Norristown Police Department at 610-270-0977 or the Montgomery County Detectives’ Tip Line at 610-278-3638. Anonymous tips can also be sent using MontcoCrimeTips on the STOPit! app.
