A registered sex offender from Montgomery County is facing a new round of charges following an investigation by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau into the possession of child pornography.
Eric Albitz, 36, of Upper Pottsgrove, has been charged with 37 felony counts of possession of child pornography (second/subsequent offense) and 37 felony counts of criminal use of a communication facility in connection with the investigation. He is currently being held at State Correctional Institute (SCI) Dallas in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.
The investigation began in October 2021 when county detectives received a Cybertip from Snapchat via the Delaware County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) regarding a user allegedly uploading suspected child pornography. The image depicted a female victim between the ages of 8 and 12 years old, according to a release from the district attorney’s office.
Investigators said they were able to trace the IP address to Albitz’s home on Snyder Road in Upper Pottsgrove Township. They later served a search warrant on Albitz’s cell phone, which allegedly uncovered 37 images and videos of child pornography.
Pennsylvania State Police records show Albitz was charged in January 2018 with possession of child pornography, and he was found guilty of the charges in January 2020. Sentencing information for the first charges wasn’t available at the time of publishing, however state police records show that Albitz began registering as a Tier 2 sex offender under Megan’s Law on Jan. 7, 2021.
His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on April 5 at 11 a.m. in front of District Judge Maurice Saylor.
