Hatfield Man Accused of Stealing $1,200 in Wine from Montgomeryville Wegmans

A Hatfield Township man is facing felony retail theft charges after he allegedly stole two bottles of wine with a combined value of more than $1,200 from the Wegmans at Montgomery Mall.

Montgomery Township Police were contacted by Wegmans Asset Protection on Feb. 23 regarding a pair of retail thefts that occurred on Feb. 5 and Feb. 20, according to the criminal complaint. Asset protection personnel told police that on Feb. 5, a male suspect — later identified as 49-year-old Andrey Tammest — was captured on surveillance entering the store, selecting a bottle of wine valued at $449.99 and then concealing the bottle from the cashier while paying for other items, the report states.

Tammest then exited the store without paying for the wine, police said.

Then, on Feb. 20, Tammest allegedly returned to the store and selected a $799.99 bottle of wine, which he also allegedly concealed from the cashier while paying for other items, police said. He then exited without paying for the wine, according to charging documents.

Total loss for Wegmans was $1,249.98, the report states.

As a result of the investigation, Tammest was charged on March 8 with one felony count of retail theft. Police said Tammest reported to the Montgomery Township Police Department for processing on the charge, after which he was released. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on April 12 at 11:15 a.m. in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
