Rotary Club Of North Penn To Host Student Speech Competition

The Rotary Club of North Penn is holding its annual "4-Way Test Speech Contest" on Tuesday, March 22, at Stove & Tap Restaurant in Lansdale.

The 4-Way Test Speech Contest is for qualified local high school students who compete for cash prizes by writing and presenting a persuasive speech that answers the questions: "Is It The Truth?", "Is It Fair to All Concerned?", "Will It Build Good Will & Better Friendships?" and "Is It Beneficial To All Concerned?" These four questions, according to the Rotary, are those by which Rotarians strive to live their personal and professional lives, and can be asked of any topic or situation.

Speeches over the years from young adults have been on topics ranging from bullying to environmental issues. This year, three high school students from Lansdale Catholic and two students from North Penn High School will be competing on the upcoming judging night.

Judges are local business people, teachers or educational administrators. There are three levels for this contest; at this club level, the top three students will win a cash scholarship.  The winner of the club level goes on to compete at the regional level, and from there possibly to the Rotary District level, where the top prize is $1,000.

Club members and guests are invited; tickets are $20 each and include dinner. The event starts at 5:30 p.m.
