District Attorney Investigating Overnight Officer-Involved Shooting in Montco

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office has announced an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning.

Police from Upper Providence and Limerick were dispatched to a medical health emergency in the Mont Clare section of Upper Providence Township at 2:59 a.m. The caller reported that a family member had gathered multiple firearms and put them in his pickup truck, according to a release from the district attorney’s office.

The release states that police encountered the man in the parking lot of the Meadows Apartment complex, where he had crashed his truck. The man allegedly exited his vehicle and fired at police, at which point police returned fire and struck the man in the arm, police said.

The man was transported to Paoli Hospital and is expected to survive. The name of the man, as well as the police officers involved in the shooting, will not be released at this time, according to officials.

Following the shooting, investigators from the Montgomery County Detective Bureau arrived on scene and began to investigate the incident per county protocols for officer-involved shootings.
