A Telford man has been arrested and charged in connection with last week’s burglary at the Exxon Uni-Mart located at the intersection of Orvilla and Welsh roads in Hatfield Township.
Brian Aguado, 45, has been charged with felony burglary, criminal trespassing, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and related conspiracy offenses in connection with the Feb. 28 incident.
Police were contacted by the owner of the business at 7:28 a.m., who reported that approximately $3,000 in cash, $1,000 in lottery tickets, a tip jar and multiple cartons of cigarettes had been stolen. A review of surveillance footage from the store showed an older model Mercedes SUV with seven-spoke rims and minor damage to the driver’s side front quarter panel pulling into the parking lot at 4:04 a.m., at which point two suspects exit the vehicle, break into the store, and steal the items before fleeing the scene, police said.
Investigators learned that the same vehicle was used in a similar theft from a gas station in Tinicum Township on Feb. 26, and footage from that incident showed the suspect as having a distinct anarchy “A” tattoo on his neck, as well as the Mercedes’ vehicle registration, which was later traced back to Aguado, police said.
The second suspect in the Hatfield Township incident remains unidentified at this time.
Pennsylvania Lottery officials confirmed which bundles of tickets had been stolen, and informed police that 28 winning tickets from the bundles had been cashed in at three Wawa locations in Hatfield and Warminster townships only hours after they had been stolen. Investigators said a review of the Wawa surveillance footage showed Aguado cashing the tickets while in the same clothes from the burglary, and the anarchy tattoo was also visible on the footage.
Aguado was taken into custody on March 4 and arraigned by District Judge Ed Levine, who set bail at $99,000 cash. Court records show bail was later reduced to $49,000 cash following a review by the county’s Pre-Trial Services Unit. Aguado remains in custody at county jail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on March 15 in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy.
The second suspect is described as a medium-skinned Black or Hispanic male who wore glasses, a ski mask, a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and Jordan Retro 11 red, black and white sneakers. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hatfield Township Police Department at 215-855-0903. Tips can also be submitted electronically here.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
