Suspect Taken Into Custody After Assault in Whitpain Thursday


Whitpain Township police have taken a suspect into custody after a reported assault Thursday morning.

Police were called to the 900 block of Jolly Road in Whitpain Township shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, for a report of a female victim being attacked by an unknown male near her vehicle.

Responding officers saw a male suspect matching the description fleeing the area into the nearby woods. Officers from Plymouth Township responded to a request for a K9 unit, and a Whitpain Township aerial drone joined in the search.

A short time later the suspect was located in the densely wooded area and taken into custody. The victim suffered injuries to her face and was transported to Abington Hospital by ambulance, where she is in stable condition.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, is being charged with robbery, aggravated assault and related offenses. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Whitpain Township Police Department at (610) 279-9033, refer to case 2022-10920.
