A 21-year-old Philadelphia man and two juveniles have been arrested and charged in connection with a carjacking that ended with t
he vehicle they were driving crashing into a Chalfont building.
Zahir Johnson of Philadelphia was remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, 10% of $500,000; the juveniles were placed in detention. The three also were charged with an attempted carjacking that started the chain of events earlier that evening in Doylestown.
On Monday at about 6:50 p.m., Doylestown Township Police were dispatched to a Shell gas station on the 1800 block of S. Easton Road (Route 611) for a report of an attempted carjacking that had just occurred. The victim told police they were beginning to pump gas into their vehicle when they were approached by three males who ordered the victim to turn over their keys. Despite their attempt to physically restrain the victim, the victim was able to break free and run inside the gas station for help.
Witnesses reported seeing three young males walking south on Easton Road in the Warrington area, according to police. At about 8 p.m., Warrington Township Police responded to a report of a carjacking at the Luk Oil station at 1400 Easton Road.
That victim told police they were starting to pump gas when they were approached by one young man, while two others approached from behind, including one later identified as Johnson. The victim was placed into a chokehold, pulled back and punched, and threw the keys at the vehicle, police say.
Both juveniles and Johnson fled in the victim’s vehicle. Warrington police observed the vehicle with the suspects near the intersection of Routes 202 and 152, initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle fled.
Following the last known direction of the vehicle, police found the vehicle crashed into a building at the intersection of Route 152 and E. Butler Avenue in Chalfont. All three subjects fled from the scene, and shortly after were tracked by a K-9 unit and taken into custody, according to police. Charges include robbery of a motor vehicle, theft by unlawful taking-movable property, unauthorized use of automobiles, and simple assault.
