Local Man Arrested Again After Taking Money for Heater Installation Then Failing to Perform Services, Police Say

A Blue Bell man is facing home improvement fraud charges after he allegedly took more than $1,300 from a customer to install two heaters, then failed to provide the services.

Jeffrey Tourdot, 35, formerly of North Wales Borough, has been charged with making false statements to induce home improvement services and receiving advanced payment then failing to perform services, following an investigation by the Whitpain Township Police Department.

Police said Tourdot entered into an agreement to install two heaters into a client’s garage in February 2022, and received $1,380 in upfront payment for the work, which was scheduled to be completed within four days. Tourdot then failed to show up for the work and provided a stream of excuses via multiple phone calls and texts with the client over the weeks that followed, according to charging documents.

Investigators attempted to contact Tourdot in March, however they were unsuccessful. The week after that attempt, Tourdot allegedly sent an image of a large sum of money to the client stating he was on his way to return the money, but he never showed up and has since failed to reply to any calls or texts, the report states.

Charges were filed against Tourdot on March 21, but court records show he wasn’t taken into custody until June 5, at which point he was arraigned by District Judge Katherine McGill, who set bail at $77, indicating there was a probation or parole detainer filed. He is currently in custody at county jail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 16 at 9:30 a.m. in front of Judge McGill.

Tourdot was previously arrested in North Wales Borough in December 2019, after he allegedly went into an agreement with an elderly woman to replace her home water heaters, then stole all the home’s copper piping and caused thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to the home.

Prior to that, Tourdot had been arrested on DUI and drug charges in North Wales Borough in November 2019, and in Lansdale Borough in August 2019 after he allegedly overdosed while driving and struck the front window of the 709 Market on North Wales Road.

Tourdot was on probation at the time of the most recent incident.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
