Two Men Accused of Stealing Scrap Metal from Business Dumpster in Montgomery Township

Two Philadelphia men are facing felony theft charges after they allegedly stole scrap metal from a dumpster belonging to a business in Montgomery Township multiple times last month.

Police were initially contacted by ESW America, located along the 200 block of Progress Drive, on May 17 regarding ongoing issues they’ve been having with scrap mental being stolen from their dumpster over the last few months. The business informed police they had posted multiple “no trespassing” signs in the area of the dumpster as well as the dumpster itself, however the thefts continued including the sign being stolen during the most recent incident.

A surveillance camera was ultimately installed, and upon review, police learned that two male suspects were captured on surveillance stealing from the dumpster on May 8, May 10, and May 17, according to the criminal complaint. The two men would arrive in a mid-90s Ford F250 with the license plate removed, then proceed to steal the scrap metal from the scene before leaving a short time later, the report states.

The suspects were later identified as 35-year-old Angel Arzon and 21-year-old Alex Madera. Total value of the stolen scrap metal was in excess of $2,000, police said.

Arzon and Madera have been charged with felony counts of theft of secondary metal and receiving stolen property, along with a misdemeanor charge of defiant trespassing. Arzon is free on $5,000 unsecured bail and has a preliminary hearing on July 12 in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy.

Madera has not been taken into custody at this time.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
