The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday an investigation into a fatal weekend shooting that left 22-year-old Nahmer Baird dead.
Pottstown Police were dispatched to the 400 block of West Street at 8:08 p.m. on May 29 for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police found Baird unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a white Nissan Sentra suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Baird was transported to Pottstown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m.
Investigators determined that Baird was shot in the area of Locust Alley and West Street, where they recovered numerous fired cartridge casings. Ballistic evidence and surveillance footage showed that there had been an exchange of gunfire between the occupants of the Nissan and a black Chrysler 300, after which Baird’s vehicle traveled two blocks and crashed head-on into a Dodge pickup truck, injuring the driver, according to police.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Reading Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
An autopsy was performed by Dr. Kahlil Wardak with the coroner’s office, which found the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the torso and the manner of death to be homicide, investigators said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pottstown Borough Police Department at 610-970-6570 or the Montgomery County Detectives Tip Line at 610-278-3638.
