Photos: Shooting Incident in Lansdale Borough Leads to Swat Standoff in North Wales

A shooting incident in Lansdale Borough early Friday morning led to an hours-long standoff in North Wales Borough after police tracked the suspect's vehicle to a local residence.

Police were dispatched to the unit block of East Third Street in Lansdale at 5:53 a.m. on July 22 for a report of shots fired at a house. No injuries were reported, and witnesses described seeing a black vehicle leaving the area of the shooting.

Police from Upper Gwynedd Township observed the suspect vehicle on Wissahickon Avenue and later located the vehicle along the 200 block of Elm Avenue in North Wales Borough, where an hours-long standoff occurred including units from area police departments and the Montgomery County SWAT-Central Region Team.

North Penn Now photographer Bob Kelly observed one person being taken into custody shortly after 11 a.m., however the standoff continued until nearly 2 p.m., according to Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail.

The scene has since been cleared.

In a phone interview with North Penn Now, Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail stated there was no threat to the public, and the shooting was unrelated to the June and July shootings that occurred in Lansdale. Trail said no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and added the incident was targeted and not random.

“This incident was not a random act but a targeted event fueled by the easy access of guns by criminals,” Trail said.

Sources tell North Penn Now the person taken into custody earlier in the day was arrested on a warrant unrelated to the incident.
