More than 1,000 community members gathered at Memorial Park in Lansdale on Saturday for the Community Day in the Park event hosted by Discover Lansdale.
The event had music by Evans Entertainment, North Pennsmen Barbershop Chorus and The Liberty Belles Chorus. There was also food, games, and more than a dozen vendors.
Richele Brisbon is a home-based baker from Lansdale and had a table for her bakery, Shelby’s Sweet Things, which sells baked goods and desserts, including sugar-free, gluten-free and vegan baked goods.
“[The event] is good exposure for my business and a good opportunity that I wanted to take,” Brisbon said.
Jeffrey Rhoads sells custom tie-dyes, which began as a project he did with his grandchildren. He posts some of his tie-dyes on Facebook that are available for purchase.
“I’m just trying to get rid of this stuff we spent money on,” Rhoads said. “We bought all the shirts and dye, and I did all the work and now I'm just trying to get some back.”
Among the vendors was Rock Den Music Store & Cafe, which sells instruments, offers music lessons, does repairs, and has open mics on Fridays and shows every other Saturday.
“Today, everyone’s been very welcoming and supportive,” Co-owner and guitar tech Adam Cannon said.
Linda Batory is from Souderton and decided to become a vendor to sell items from her storage unit after her daughter-in-law who lives in Lansdale mentioned it to her. While this was her first flea market in the community, she has been a vendor in other flea markets in the past.
“The celebration has been wonderful,” Batory said. “Just hearing the talk that they gave and how everybody just got really quiet around the gazebo, Lansdale does so many nice things.”
Samantha Robinson runs Essential Sage, which sells crystals. Essential Sage has been at multiple farmer’s markets and flea markets.
“I'm a social worker and when I was a kid, I wanted to be a geologist,” Robinson said. “I had both come together. I coach people through healing through the use of crystals. That's where my social work comes in.”
Gabrielle Harman attended the event with her husband, who was a vendor, and kids.
“People have just been giving my daughter free stuff and being really sweet,” Harman said. “It’s just nice to meet people from the community and be out here.”
Isamari Cruz moved to Lansdale from Puerto Rico in August 2021. She came to the event because she wanted to learn more about the borough.
“[The event] is great because this is a place where people can have the opportunity to show what they have and to bond with the community,” Cruz said.
