North Montco to Host a Car Show in April to Benefit Education Foundation, Sponsors Wanted

North Montco Technical Career Center (NMTCC) will be hosting its very first car show on April 9 outside of its campus.

NMTCC is a vocational school that works with 9th through 12th grade students from North Penn, Souderton Area, Wissahickon, Methacton, and Perkiomen Valley School Districts. Students can explore different programs like construction carpentry, heating ventilation and air conditioning, culinary arts, electrical trades and health sciences, among many others.

“These careers are what we consider to be essential careers, especially during the pandemic,” Denise Collins, Continuing Education Capacity Coordinator for North Montco Technical Career Center, said.

The car show’s benefits will be going towards the school’s new education foundation, which started about two years ago. The money from donors and sponsors will help provide opportunities for students to apply advanced, academic, and technical skills in technology, equipment, and software. It’ll also give students opportunities to run against other schools in competitions, so their work can be recognized.

The school will also utilize the funds to purchase leading-edge technology and equipment to enhance students' learning, academic and technical achievement.

“When you're running a technical school, you have to keep things very current and that costs a lot of money,” Collins said. “And it just helps the industry if we're at the latest and greatest in technology, and we can provide that for the students to learn on, so that they can use those skills when they get out to the work world and that they're familiar with it. Keeping up with technology is expensive. Finding the best teachers to teach in these fields you know all cost money.”

The school will be reaching out to local businesses to sponsor the car show in the coming weeks, as well as finding community members who are interested in entering their cars.

The school plans to have several categories including Best of Trucks, Best of Street Rods, Best of Motorcycles, among others. The trophies will be made by the welding and machinist students. There will also be a student and survivor class. People can register their cars on the school’s website. There will be a $20 fee for each car that is registered. The car show will also have music and food trucks, including Diz’s Dogs and Meat Wagon BBQ.

The event will also highlight the efforts of the school in which they prepare students to meet nationally recognized industry standards certifications, credentialing, and licensing requirements. Collins hopes that it’ll allow people to understand the value of technical education and how it can help open up many career opportunities for students.

“We want to really engage the community as much as possible so that they are excited about coming here and seeing what we do and how,” Collins said. “They benefit when our students are good as well—when our students are well prepared.”

A rain date for the event has been scheduled for April 10. For more information, click here.
