Two Montgomery County men are facing felony charges after they allegedly cut a portion of an active sewer pipe from an apartment complex in Telford and then sold it for $26.
In April, the property manager for Telford Garden Apartments contacted police to report the theft and damage of a portion of a sewer pipe located within a boiler room in the complex. The manager told police he had received complaints from residents about water issues, and when he entered the boiler room, he encountered sewage and water across the floor and noticed that a six-foot portion of the sewage pipe had been cut and removed, according to charging documents.
Police said the door to the boiler room had been forced open prior to the manager’s arrival.
After reviewing surveillance footage which showed two men leaving an apartment, the manager was able to identify one of the suspects as 41-year-old James Massino, of Telford. The second suspect was later identified as 22-year-old Timothy McKnight, of Trooper, police said.
When interviewed by police, both men allegedly confessed to cutting the pipe and selling it to a scrapyard for $26.
Massino was taken into custody on May 11 on charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and criminal mischief. Court records show the burglary charge was later withdrawn, and he is currently at the Bucks County Correctional Facility on a probation detainer as he awaits his formal arraignment at the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas.
McKnight was taken into custody on June 13 on charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and criminal mischief. The criminal trespassing charge was later withdrawn, and McKnight remains in custody on a probation detainer at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility as he awaits his formal arraignment.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
