Moyer 5K Run, 2 Mile Walk and 1K Kids' Run Returns for 27th Year, Benefits Souderton Area High School Cross Country Scholarships

The Moyer 5K run, 2 Mile Walk and 1K Kids’ Run is returning for their 27th year on July 13 at 6 p.m. at the Souderton Community Park, located at 459 Wile Avenue

The fitness event will include music and water stations throughout the course. Runners will be rewarded pizza, popsicles, and 5-year age group awards after crossing the finish line.

The Kids’ 1K Run starts at 6:30 p.m., with the 5K Race and 2 Mile Fitness Walk starting at 7 p.m.

Participants will receive a custom-designed t-shirt from the annual Moyer 5K T-shirt Design Contest. The winner of this year’s contest is Souderton Area High School student Audrey Bowman, whose design was inspired by the Moyer Pest Control division. Bowman received a $100 Visa Gift Card.

“We know this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever,” Bob Williamson, General Manager for Moyer and founder of the annual 5K, said in a press release. “It’s not just a 5K; we have music, great food from Jesse’s Barbecue, and people along the route to cheer everybody on. The Kids’ Run and 2 Mile Walk give everyone a chance to participate. And it’s all to benefit Souderton Cross Country scholarships.”

Since 1994, more than 700 runners and hundreds of volunteers have participated in the Moyer 5K, with 37 students receiving scholarships.

Souderton Area High School Class of 2022 graduates Manny Rota-Talarico and Allison Malmquist are this year’s scholarship recipients.

Rota-Talarico was the captain of the cross country and track team. He will be attending Penn State University in the fall and will major in kinesiology with plans to become a physical therapist. Rota-Talarico will continue running club cross country and track with the hope of making the Penn State varsity team as a walk-on.

Malmquist, a four-year varsity letter winner, was the captain of the cross country and track team in both her junior and senior years. Malmquist was second-team all-league in 2020 and has run more mileage than any other female Souderton athlete in the last six years. She will continue her running career at Christopher Newport University.

“The Moyer 5K has grown into a terrific way to bring our community together to have fun and do good. We are very proud that we can serve our friends and neighbors in this way,” David Moyer, President of Moyer, said in a press release.

Pre-registration is open at www.emoyer.com. Participants can also register the day prior to the start of the July 13, event from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at Souderton Park.

Current Moyer customers who pre-register online are eligible to receive a $5 discount off of all registration fees by selecting the customer discount options.
