A Philadelphia man was arrested and charged June 11 after he was captured by Montgomery Township Police while allegedly driving a stolen vehicle.
On June 10, while on patrol, Montgomery Township Police said they determined a pickup truck was stolen after running the vehicle’s registration through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). According to the criminal complaint, police pulled over the driver, later identified as 40-year-old Raymond Antwon Nixon, and after police provided an explanation for the traffic stop, Nixon reportedly said it was a misunderstanding.
Nixon said the vehicle belonged to a friend who knew he had the vehicle, according to the report. After verifying his information through NCIC, it stated he had a suspended driver's license, police said.
Police then confirmed with Philadelphia that the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen, the report states. The vehicle was seized by a local towing company and Philadelphia Police Department was notified of its location.
As a result of the incident, Nixon was charged with one felony county of receiving stolen property and a summary charge of driving on a suspended license.
Nixon is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 19 at 9:45 a.m. in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy. He remains free on $25,000 unsecured bail.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
