Local Author and NP Grad to Host Meet and Greet and Book Signing at Barnes & Noble

A local author and North Penn Class of 2021 graduate will be holding her first meet and greet and book signing for her latest book. “The Reaper.” on Aug. 20 at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Valley Forge.

Mya Richter’s meet and greet and book signing will begin at noon. The bookstore will sell “The Reaper” during the event and for a short time after in-store and online.

“I'm just excited to meet people and make connections because it's always going to be these first little things in my career that are going to spark the bigger things,” Richter said.

“The Reaper” is a fantasy novel about the Vermillion family, a chosen family comprised of six soldiers who come together in the midst of war and oppression in their world to defeat the villain of the story.

Richter is a sci-fi and fantasy author. She has been writing for as long as she could remember, and recalls being brought up in a creative environment.

“My dad would always take me to go see movies at night when I was little, which I just thought was so cool,” Richter said. “My mom has always encouraged me to keep writing because I would write horror stories for all sorts of family occasions.”

Richter attends Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia and is a dramatic writing (screenwriting) major, with a minor in creative writing. During high school, she wrote “The War and Ruins” trilogy.

“The Reaper” was her first book that was heavily promoted on multiple social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. The district manager of the Barnes & Nobles in the area found Richter on Facebook and commented on one of her posts.

Richter’s mother, who is a co-owner of the account, saw the comment and told Richter about it over the phone while she was still in school. The district manager then spoke to Richter and asked if she would want to go on consignment for the Barnes & Noble in Valley Forge and to also do a meet and greet.

“It was insane. I cried a little bit, and my roommate and I put on music and just started dancing,” Richter said. “We were just happy, and I was kind of in shock, honestly. It was a really-good day.”

“The Reaper” is available for pre-order on her website. It will be officially released on Aug. 20 on her website, in the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Valley Forge and on Amazon.

“I'm mostly just excited because I've been working on it for so long,” Richter said. “It feels like no matter what people are going to think about it, it pays off for me in the sense that I created something and it's finally going to be out there for the world to see.”
