A Sellersville woman is facing a felony DUI charge after police allegedly clocked her traveling more than 90 miles per hour on Bethlehem Pike in Montgomery Township earlier this month.
Kirstin Cook, 26, has been charged with one felony count of DUI along with summary counts of careless driving and exceeding speed limit by 45 miles per hour in connection with the incident.
Montgomery Township Police were patrolling near Mark’s Jewelers on Bethlehem Pike at 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 15 when they noticed a blue Honda Ridgeline allegedly travelling well above the posted 45 mile per hour speed limit. Police said they had to travel in excess of 90 miles per hour in order to catch up to the vehicle, and they eventually paced the Honda as traveling more than 90 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.
A traffic stop was subsequently initiated in the parking lot of Bergey’s Chevrolet.
Police said the driver, identified as Cook, had watery, bloodshot eyes and an odor of alcohol was emanating from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle uncovered a half-full bottle of vodka and an alcoholic drink inside of a thermos in Cook’s cupholder, according to the complaint.
Cook then failed a series of field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, police said. She was taken to Lansdale Hospital for a blood draw for blood-alcohol testing, however the results have not been received at this time.
After Cook was processed, police learned that she had two prior DUI convictions from Warwick Police in 2015 and Pennsylvania State Police Dublin Barracks in 2017. The DUI charge was then upgraded to a third-degree felony.
Cook was arraigned on Jan. 16 by District Judge James Gallagher, who set bail at $5,000 unsecured. Her next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
