A Chalfont man has been charged with felony aggravated assault after he allegedly punched two Jefferson Lansdale Hospital staffers during an altercation in the emergency room Monday evening.
Police were dispatched to the hospital at 6:14 p.m. on Jan. 10 for a report of a male patient who was “acting out” and assaulting hospital staff. Upon arrival, police observed 27-year-old Simba Allen-Martin in the middle of the emergency room yelling and creating a disturbance for other patients, according to the criminal complaint.
The report states that prior to police arrival, a hospital security officer was called into the emergency room to assist Allen-Martin to his room, however Allen-Martin refused to listen to the security officer’s commands and instead punched the officer in the face and nose, knocking him to the ground. A hospital maintenance worker then arrived to the emergency room in an attempt to intervene, however the worker was also punched in the face by Allen-Martin, police said.
Allen-Martin was subsequently taken into custody. He was later arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy on a felony charge of aggravated assault against designated individuals and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. Allen-Martin was then given $1,000 unsecured bail and was released from custody, according to court records.
His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Jan. 25 at 11:15 p.m. in front of Judge Duffy.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
