A Lansdale woman is facing DUI and public drunkenness charges after she allegedly drove drunk to pick up her child from school.

According to the criminal complaint, Lansdale Police were dispatched to the 700 block of York Avenue at 3:32 p.m. on May 29 for a report of a two-vehicle crash at York Elementary School. Upon arrival, police spoke with a staff member of the school who stated that they saw a blue Honda CRV—driven by 36-year-old Tiffany Gabriel, of Lansdale—strike a parked vehicle down the street, before pulling into the pick-up line to pick up her child from school, according to the complaint.

When police confronted Gabriel in her vehicle at the pick-up line, they noticed damage to the passenger’s side-view mirror, the report states. Police said they detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle, and described Gabriel as having glassy eyes with thick and slurred speech, according to the report.

When asked if she had been drinking, Gabriel allegedly said that she had two beers, according to the report.

Police located the vehicle that had been struck, and noted that it had sustained damage to the driver’s side-view mirror and housing cover. The owner of the vehicle said that they had confronted Gabriel in the pick-up line, and when they asked if she had been drinking, Gabriel allegedly replied “That’s presumptuous of you,” according to the report.

Once outside of her vehicle, multiple witnesses stated that Gabriel was uneasy on her feet and barely able to stand. The report states that Gabriel failed a series of field sobriety tests, and when police attempted to handcuff her, she pulled away from their grasp, the report states.  Police were able to gain control and place Gabriel into custody, but described her behavior as combative and belligerent, according to the complaint.

After consenting to a chemical test of her blood, Gabriel was taken to the Towamencin Township Police Department for a blood draw, the report states. Though she remained combative, technicians were able to draw two vials of blood for testing, according to the complaint.

The results of the blood test showed that Gabriel’s blood-alcohol content at the time of testing was .239 percent, which is nearly three times the legal limit, according to the complaint.

On July 17, upon receipt of the blood test results, Gabriel was charged with DUI, public drunkenness and accident involving damage to an unattended vehicle. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10 at 1:15 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.
