Pennfield Social Studies Teacher Passes Away on Christmas After Short Battle with COVID-19

A longtime teacher with North Penn School District passed away on Christmas following a short battle with COVID-19.

According to his obituary, Andrew Jenkins, 47, of Allentown, died on Dec. 25 following a “short bout” with COVID-19. Jenkins had spent the last 15 years at Pennfield Middle School, where he taught history and coached football and wrestling.

Jenkins was fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to his obituary.

“Andy was an amazing human being and an amazing teacher that always made the classroom brighter with his knowledge and wisdom,” said North Penn School District, via a statement emailed to staff. “Nothing made him happier than seeing children excited about a topic being discussed in history.”

Jenkins graduated from William Allen High School in Allentown in 1992 and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Moravian University and later his master’s degree in education of Wilkes University. Jenkins had been employed by North Penn School district since 2007.

“He was one of the most loving teachers at Pennfield,” the district said. “He received so much joy as a teacher and his spirit will live on with the students and staff for years to come.”
