‘Person Of Interest’ In Homicide Case Arrested In Upper Bucks

The "person of interest” in a Bristol Township homicide case was arrested Wednesday night in Upper Bucks County.

Brian Joseph Carey, 41, who has recent addresses in Bensalem Township and Philadelphia, is being held on drug-related offenses. On-call District Judge Lisa Gaier preliminarily arraigned Carey at 3:40 a.m. Thursday in the drug case and held him on 10 percent of $750,000 bail.

Police have said they want to talk to Carey in connection to the death of Joseph "Dutch” Jakimowicz, 78, who was found dead in the Winder Drive home he owned since 2013 on Tuesday around 7:15 p.m. Jakimowicz’s death was a homicide.

Pennsylvania State Police were called late Wednesday evening to the Trum Tavern on East Broad Street in Trumbauersville Borough, which is about an hour drive from the scene of the death, for a report of a "suspicious person.” They confirmed the person was Carey, who troopers knew was being sought for questioning in the Bristol Township case, according to court papers.

Troopers said they learned Carey walked away on foot along North Main Street in Trumbauersville Borough.

Investigators visited Earl’s Pub in the borough and located Carey, state police said. Carey was found at the bar and had an object sticking out from his back, state police said. Carey identified himself and was discovered to have a "weapon” on his back, state police said.

Troopers reported they found multiple glass pipes with Carey. They also located suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The "person of interest” was transported from the Upper Bucks County borough to the Dublin Borough state police building for processing. A check of court records showed Carey is not facing any charges related to the homicide case as of 9 a.m. Thursday.

Carey is believed to have taken Jakimowicz’s light-colored Chevrolet Trailblazer. The SUV was located in Philadelphia Wednesday, police said. Carey was then suspected of driving a large red truck. It was not clear if the red truck was located with Carey in Upper Bucks County.

Jakimowicz worked as a Philadelphia Department of Prisons corrections officer before retiring. Jakimowicz was Carey’s stepfather, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with information related to the homicide has been asked to contact Bucks County Detectives at 215-348-6354 or Bristol Township Detectives at 215-785-4040. Tips can also submitted at BucksDA.org.
