Man Accused of Stealing Computer, Flowers from Costco Two Days Before Valentine’s Day, Police Say

A Philadelphia man was recently arrested in Montgomery Township after he allegedly stole a computer and flower bouquet from Costco two days before Valentine’s Day.

Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Upper State Road at 12:39 p.m. on Feb. 12 for a report of a theft in progress. A store employee reported that a male suspect had exited the front entrance of the store with a computer and flower bouquet that he had not paid for, according to the criminal complaint.

As police were enroute to the scene, store staff followed the suspect through the parking lot, at which point the suspect abandoned the computer and flowers, the report states. The suspect — identified as 39-year-old Jermaine Nesmith — was taken into custody as police arrived.

The report states the value of the computer was listed as $899.99. The value of the flower bouquet was $16.99, according to the complaint.

As a result of the incident, Nesmith was charged with felony counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property. The report notes the charges were upgraded to third-degree felonies as Nesmith has multiple prior convictions for retail theft.

Nesmith was arraigned by District Judge Edward Kropp Sr., who set bail at $10,000 cash. He was then taken to county jail after failing to post bail.

His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on March 8 at 11 a.m. in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
