North Penn Grad’s Son, Who Received Birthday Card Drive 2 Years Ago, Dies from CHARGE Syndrome Complications

The young son of 1998 North Penn High School graduate and former Hatfield Township resident Tracy (Cervi) Inverso – who asked public assistance back in January 2020 in making her son’s 10th birthday a memorable one – passed away Jan. 17, one day shy of his 12th birthday, due to complications related to a rare genetic condition called CHARGE syndrome.

By January 2020, Logan Inverso, then 10 years old, had already been through 25 surgeries and medical procedures, including three open heart surgeries. CHARGE syndrome affects many parts of the body, and the pattern of malformations is different for everyone. According to the National Library of Medicine, CHARGE is an abbreviation for the things common in the disorder: coloboma, heart defects, atresia choanae (also known as choanal atresia), growth retardation, genital abnormalities, and ear abnormalities.

Andy Lauer reported on the Logan Inverso Memorial Fund GoFundMe page that his cousin passed away a day before his 12th birthday during his 26th surgery.

To date, the fund has raised $59,110 from 331 donors. Logan’s late great uncle started a second separate fundraiser for the family, which raised an additional $3,015.

“I've turned off the fundraiser from accepting any more donations. On behalf of the Inverso family, thank you so much for your unbelievable support and generosity,” Lauer wrote during a Jan. 25 update on the site.

Lauer wrote that Tracy Inverso posted on the night before the surgery that the pressures in Logan’s heart and lungs were extremely high, and that the surgeons were hoping to lower the pressure by angioplasty to existing stents or introducing new medication.

“Sadly, Logan did not survive the surgery,” Lauer wrote. “While money will not bring Logan back or ease the pain that his family is going through right now, it will assist Tracy and (Logan’s dad) Jonathan in covering some of their unexpected medical and memorial service expenses.”

The Inverso family, who reside in Pompano Beach, FL, livestreamed Logan’s service on Jan. 20 through Vimeo.

“All who knew Logan truly knew he was a Superman,” wrote the family in his obituary. “He loved his family, especially his big sister Taylor. Everyone he touched fell in love with him. Although Logan’s earthly time here was short, his presence became the anchor for his entire family. His passing left us adrift, but as a family, we are strengthened in knowing Logan is safely protected in God’s embrace until we are reunited again.”
